1. Overview
Welcome to Rentiwise ("we", "our", or "us"). Rentiwise is a peer-to-peer item rental marketplace available on iOS, designed and operated in India. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Rentiwise mobile application and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
By using Rentiwise, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please discontinue use of the Service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect different types of information depending on how you interact with Rentiwise:
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account Information: Full name, email address, and phone number when you register.
- Profile Details: Profile photo and display name that you upload or choose.
- Phone Number Verification: Your mobile number for OTP-based authentication via MSG91.
- Item Listings: Title, description, category, pricing, availability dates, and photos of items you list.
- Address Information: Your home or item pickup address for location-based discovery.
- Rental Proof Photos: Photos taken at item pickup and return as rental proof documentation.
- Reviews & Ratings: Written content and star ratings you submit for other users.
- Support Communications: Messages sent through our in-app Customer Support chat.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, device identifiers, and app version.
- Location Data: GPS coordinates when the app is in use, to calculate distances and show nearby listings (see Location Data section).
- Usage Data: Features accessed, screens viewed, session timestamps, and interaction logs.
- Log Data: IP address, crash reports, and error logs for app performance monitoring.
2.3 Information from Third-Party Services
- Payment Verification: Order reference IDs and transaction status from UPI payment providers. We do not store card numbers or full bank account details.
- Authentication Providers: If you log in via third-party sign-in (Google, Apple), we receive your name and email address from those providers per their respective privacy policies.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to provide, improve, and protect the Rentiwise Service:
Authentication
Verify your identity via phone OTP, create and maintain your account, and manage sessions securely.
Marketplace Operations
Display your listings, match you with nearby items, process rental requests, and facilitate bookings.
Payments
Process UPI-based transactions and generate payment confirmations between lenders and borrowers.
Location Services
Calculate distances to show you items available near your current or registered address.
Communication
Enable peer-to-peer messaging, send OTP notifications, and support chat with our team.
Service Improvement
Analyse usage patterns, fix bugs, and improve features to enhance your experience.
Legal Compliance
Meet obligations under Indian law including the IT Act, 2000 and related regulations.
Safety & Fraud Prevention
Detect suspicious activity, prevent fraud, and protect our community from abuse.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
4.1 Between Users
When a borrower requests an item or a lender approves a booking, the following information is shared between the parties:
- Display name and profile photo
- Approximate pickup address (visible after booking confirmation)
- Rating and review history
4.2 Service Providers
We work with trusted third-party sub-processors who assist in delivering the Service:

4.3 Legal Obligations
We may disclose your information where required by law, regulatory authority, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Rentiwise, our users, or the public.
4.4 Business Transfer
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred. We will provide notice before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on servers provided by Supabase, with infrastructure hosted in secure data centres. We implement the following safeguards:
- End-to-end encryption for data in transit using TLS/HTTPS
- Row-Level Security (RLS) policies ensuring users can only access their own data
- Secure file storage with access-controlled URLs for photos
- Regular security reviews and vulnerability assessments
- Minimal data access principles โ only authorised personnel can access production data
6. Location Data
Rentiwise requires access to your device's GPS location to provide core features:
- When active: We access your location while the app is open and in the foreground to calculate distances between you and available items.
- Registered address: You may save a home/pickup address to your profile, which is stored and used for distance calculations even when not actively using GPS.
- Precision: Location data is used at the coordinate level. We do not share your exact real-time GPS coordinates publicly; only approximate distances are displayed to other users.
You can disable location access at any time in your device Settings, but this will affect the "Items Nearby" functionality. You can still use Rentiwise with a manually entered address.
7. Photos & Camera Access
Rentiwise requests camera and photo library access for the following purposes:
- Item Listings: Upload photos of items you are listing for rent.
- Profile Photo: Set your profile picture.
- Rental Proof: Capture mandatory handoff and return photos to document the condition of rented items.
Photos you upload are stored on our secure servers and are accessible to relevant parties (e.g., the counterpart in a rental transaction). You retain ownership of your uploaded content. We do not use your photos for advertising or share them with third parties outside the Service.
8. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy governing their handling of your data:
- Supabase Privacy Policy
- MSG91 Privacy Policy
- Apple Privacy Policy
- Google Privacy Policy (if using Google Sign-In)
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of each third party before using any features that involve them.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide the Service. Specifically:
- Active account data is retained for the duration of your account.
- Rental transaction records are retained for 3 years for legal and dispute resolution purposes.
- Rental proof photos are retained for 6 months after a rental is completed.
- Upon account deletion, your personal profile data is removed within 30 days. Some anonymised aggregated data may be retained for analytics.
10. Children's Privacy
Rentiwise is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us immediately at support@rentiwise.in and we will promptly delete such data.
11. Your Rights
As a user, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate personal data through the app profile settings or by contacting us.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal data ("Right to be Forgotten").
- Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw Consent: Revoke consent for optional data uses (e.g., location) via device settings.
- Grievance Redressal: File a complaint with our Grievance Officer as required under the IT (Amendment) Act, 2008.

12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When changes are made, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Notify you via in-app notification for material changes
- Where required by law, seek your renewed consent
Continued use of Rentiwise after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
